Sierra Blanca – Moriarty, NM – Est. 1996

ABV: 5.2%                                     Style: American Amber/Red Ale

Color: dark reddish copper          Taste: smooth, malty; almost no hops

Overall: Definitely have one again , really liked that it was so easy to drink.  Several reviews I read gave it a 3 of 5, but I believe it merits at least a 4.

Apparently, the owners do not want their history on the web, other than date established.  Although they do offer a vacation home in the mountains 3.5hrs south of ABQ which is stocked with a variety of their beers and they are complimentary.  You have to look at the place – Cool Ruidoso. This is my new spot I wish to visit.

Sierra Blanca is New Mexico’s #1 producer of award winning beers.  In fact, last year alone they brought home 6 awards from NM State Fair.  Must be doing something right.

Sierra Blanca Nut Brown Ale – Best Overall Ale & Gold, Brown category

Rio Grande Desert Pilsner – Best Overall Lager & Gold, Pilsner category

Rio Grande Pancho Verde Cerveza – Gold, Vegetable/Spice Beer

Rio Grande IPA – Bronze, IPA category

Brews are available thru-out NM and a few places in OK, TX, LA, and AZ.  Recently merging with Uptown Sports Bar, the new ABQ Brewpub is located on Uptown Blvd.  Not only beer, but check out the menu, too.  Another great reason to go is the bartender Rocky Gottwald.  He was overall winner of the Absolut Mixologist Challenge; In 2010, he was also voted Best Mixologist in Albuquerque The Magazine.  The brewpub also won an award last year for Best Green Chile Cheese Burger.  I swear if you haven’t had one, you must!  A word of caution it will go to your head – literally.  Those chiles’ are potent.  I had a slight buzz after eating one.  In the fall of this year a brewpub will open in the ABQ airport.  Nice way to kill time, right?

Currently they have a logo contest for the soon to be released Alien Stout so all you graphic designers submit your idea.  AND…..they have a part-time position available in the tasting room.  I swear if I lived in ABQ I would get on my knees beg and grovel for that job.

Although I have several more to review from NM/CO area, gonna head northeast to Delaware to review DOGFISH HEAD – THEOBRAMA now that it’s summer and available.
